Which Paying Article Sites to Write For – Triond Vs Associated Content Vs Helium Vs PrintnPost

December 3rd, 2010

This depends on your level of competence as a writer. I started writing again in March this year, after a long break of thirty years. First I wrote at Helium in March this year. I put up 13 articles and managed to get half of them with ratings over 85%. As my ratings were not consistently above average, I didn’t get any writing stars and hence missed out in the reward-a-thon. I also tried writing for their marketplace and contests. None of my articles was purchased.

I was about to win one of the contests with a leading article before it got suspended, reason being the writing style was not appropriate to what the contest specified. How disappointing. When I checked last week, my total income was $0.13. The disappointment (not that the cash mattered that much) lead me to explore Triond and Associated Content (AC). However, reading the rules, I figured out Associated Content (AC) would also favored the more experienced writers and chose to leave this till later. I picked Triond and PrintNPost and started writing at these two sites four days ago. Now I have around 8 articles posted at Triond and four at PrintNPost. At Triond, my most popular article received over 500 clicks within one day (my children swore that they had nothing to do with it). My income so far? $1.19. I am expecting similar results with PrintNPost. I think the differences in results lie in the following:

1. Rating kills.

At Helium, you have to be rated against other writers. You also have to rate articles if you want to stay in their “reward-a-thon” event. Rating takes time and leads you away from your writing efforts. It’s not easy to get back to it. Rating kills again when you try hard but still can’t get a good enough rating for you to get the “stars”. Rating demoralizes you before you hang in there long enough to see the rules work for you.

2. The minimum number of words is fixed at 350 or above.

This makes life difficult for beginners like myself who may adopt a conversational approach: we basically write as if we are chatting with someone in a casual conversation. We are more used to dialogues, stopping from time to time waiting for responses, rather long speeches during which we are supposed to keep going. It is hard to stay interesting after our points are made.

For the seasoned writer, getting a good rating should not be a problem as there are always more novice writers to push your ratings up from below you. The high ratings will put your articles in the top five lists of search results and get you read much more. The rich gets richer and the poor poorer. The requirement on number of words is relatively easy to fulfill when you have been at it for some time. In fact, you may find it impossible to write articles with words so few for your AdSense key words.

Conclusion: Start with Triond and PrintNPost, the sites that put the novice on level ground with the skilled. When you have refined your skills, move on to sites that favor the experienced writers, like Helium and Associated Content, to cash in at the expense of the novice competitors.

Article Directories Helium and Associated Content – What Are The Differences?

December 1st, 2010

Associated Content and Helium, while they are both article directories, are very different entities. Each has its own merits and its own problems as well.

Let’s take a look, first, at Associated Content. Associated content works in this way:

* A writer who is interested in writing an article can either choose to write in their own topic area or in a topic area chosen by Associated Content. In either case, that topic area must be unique, and must differ substantially from other articles already on Associated Content.

* Associated Content will pay the writer an up-front fee, usually less than $5, to write on topics that Associated Content selects.

* A writer may choose to submit an article for up-front payment, even if Associated Content did not ask for that title. Associated Content then may either accept or deny the title for up-front payment. If it is rejected, the writer can still submit the article for performance-only payments.

* After the article is posted, Associated content will pay the writer for the number of page views the article receives. Usually, this is around $1.50 per 1000 page views.

Helium works quite a bit differently:

* At Helium, you can, and are encouraged, to write on topics that others have already written on.

* Helium doesn’t offer any up-front payments.

* Helium has alternative ways to earn money, such as with the Marketplace, contests and other promotions.

* Helium performance payments for articles are based on how the articles perform in terms of ad revenue, rather than on page views.

* Helium’s rating system allows your article to be compared to others’ articles, which can greatly help you improve your writing skills.

Whether you choose to write for Associated Content or Helium is, in many cases, a matter of preference. Many people who have tried both prefer Helium because of the alternative earnings options.

Earn Money Writing Articles Online

November 25th, 2010

Can you imagine spending all day, everyday – or two hours a day, whatever you choose – writing and surfing the net and actually getting paid to do it?

One of the best ways for a person to have flexibility in their work and life is to earn money writing articles online.

There are sites who will pay for your article: Sites like Helium.com, AssociatedContent.com and Suite 101.com who will pay for your articles, but they come with their own set of conditions. For example Suite 101 pays well but only accept applicants whose writing style fits the style of their site – as a result only 20% of applicants ever makes it through.

Associated Content may give an ‘upfront payments’ to US citizens for articles that they really like and all contributors qualify for a ‘performance payment’ of so many cents for every 1000 views that an article gets.

Constant Content is another site that you can submit work to. Your article is then auctioned off to the highest bidder, the amount that you get depends on the publishing rights attached to the article.

To earn money writing for these sites does take enormous effort, but there are many authors making a comfortable living from them.

There is a thing called article marketing and it’s one of the most rewarding ways to earn money writing articles online that I know of. Basically you write articles about products or services and include a link to a sales page. When the reader clicks on that link and subsequently buys the product you receive a pre-arranged commission.

Several other sites advertise work for freelance writers. This may include article marketing articles, web page articles or promotional articles.

To earn money writing articles this way you will need to write great quality content and you will probably need to learn;

how to write copy for marketers, what keywords are and a little knowledge about Search Engine Optimisation would not go amiss either.

It also pays to check these sites out thoroughly as many scammers target this market. A very general rule is that if you have to pay someone to give you work, then it is a scam.

You can compete for cash prizes: If you are more of a creative writer, sites such as fanstory.com allow you to write about anything you like, fictional or non-fictional and they even have a poetry and art section. They run a variety of competitions with cash prizes.

Writing reviews: is another popular way of being able to earn money writing articles online, either through a blog or writing reviews for specialist review sites.
